FISH REPORT

POTOSI LAKE VILLAGE

MARCH 19, 2005

Over the past year I have been working with Kenda Flores (fisheries management biologist) with the Missouri department of conservation, and also with in the past two weeks with Bob Hines from Country Fish Farm out of Salem Mo. With the help of the two people, we have come up with a plan to stock the lake, starting with 1000 (one thousand) channel cat that was delivered by Country Fish Farm on March 17. These fish were 8” to 12” long, they average 10”. These fish were purchased at a price of $.67 a piece. I was told this was a good deal because they usually run at a higher price than that. We also got a cheaper rate because we bought so many. The price came down from $.72, we saved $50.00. The delivery fee was $35, because we combined our load with another that was being delivered up this way. A copy of the bill for these fish will be in the fish folder for the lake. Mr. Harold Fraley and his brother Art accompanied the people who delivered the fish to the point on that day. Someone had to be there to have the fish delivered. Harold and Art were kind enough to help out the board with this.

The plan now is to have the lake shocked in the early part of May (depending on the weather). This will give us an idea of what kind of fish are in the lake and the amount of these fish. From there Kenda will advise the board on what needs to be done for the lake. As of right now both Kenda and Bob has told me that we need to get some of the grass carp that are in the lake out. There are too many in there. I reported this at the annual meeting in 2004, but the people voted not to take them out. We are also working to put cover in the lake. Mr. Dan Kelly, Mr. Larry Daniels and myself put some cover in the lake last fall, but more needs to be put in, we are working on that.

We were also approached from Osage fish hatcheries out of Lake of the Ozark, about putting paddle fish in our lake. We have decided right now not to do this but they have sent us some information on this to review.
